Project Manager – Freelance / Honorary Basis
The European Council for Student Affairs (ECStA) is an independent European umbrella organisation that strengthens cooperation in the field of student services and promotes the social dimension of higher education across Europe. Through professional exchange, joint projects, conferences and international collaboration, ECStA supports the mobility of students and staff and fosters close cooperation among its member organisations.
ECStA’s members represent public student services networks that provide key services such as student housing, dining, financial support, and social and psychological counselling within European higher education.
The Position
To support its activities, ECStA is seeking a Freelance Project Manager for the year 2026.
This is a fully remote position, anchored to ECStA member “Deutsches Studierendenwerk” in Berlin. The place of residence is not tied to Germany, and working from anywhere in Europe is possible. The role includes participation in approximately three to four in-person meetings, study visits or conferences per year.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinating and overseeing the overall project plan, including the organisation of thematic study visits and the annual European conference under the guidance of the ECStA leadership
- Planning, organising and facilitating meetings and study trips, including the preparation, documentation and follow-up of all relevant materials, in particular ECStA’s board and general assembly meetings
- Working closely with the ECStA Board and members actively maintaining relationships with international partner organisations
- Managing communication and public relations activities, including:
- Maintenance and ongoing development of the ECStA website
- Regular updates and content creation for social media channels, in particular LinkedIn
- Preparation of communication and information materials
What We Offer
- A freelance contract with a total volume of EUR 14,000 for 2026, spread over ten months with an expected work-load of 10-15h per week

Your Profile
- Proven experience in international project management, particularly in organising European in-person and online events
- Fluency in English, as English is the primary working language
- Demonstrated experience in communication and public relations, especially website management and social media (LinkedIn)
- Independent, structured and reliable working style with a high degree of personal responsibility
- Strong organisational skills, ability to work collaboratively, and a genuine interest in European cooperation and student services
