On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of student services at the Flemish universities of applied sciences and arts, from 3rd to 6th of March 2020, an international congress was organized in Ghent, STUVO 2045 future proof: what future for students and Services providers? What new services to invent and set up?
The meeting was intended as a prospective brainstorming, towards a more accessible Higher Education, more well-being for students, common challenges for the services of student life in Europe. What will Student Affairs look like in 2045?
During the 3 days of conference, bringing together 214 participants, from 8 countries, through 21 presentations and 12 workshops, the professionals of student life and the students paid particular attention to the adaptation of services to the diversity of audiences (disability, LGBTQI +, food, mental health, etc.), the psychological support provided to students and, of course, the comparison of systems in different countries.
Early detection and prevention of mental disorders, comparative scholarship systems in Europe, the diversity of types of organization of student life services in Europe, the future of food, aid for students with disabilities, good networking practices around students, the inclusive environment, etc.
ECStA was a partner and co-funded the event.
Cnous was able to present several conferences on its organizational model, on the French system of grants on social criteria and a global approach to public aid to students, on ECStA, the European Council for Student Affairs, and the European student card.
Several universities have confirmed their intention to adopt the European student card and ECSta is recruiting new members.
The demand for more professional exchanges in Europe is strong, especially on issues such as digital services and the European student card for recognition of student status and for facilitated mobility, on social housing, on inclusive education: disability, refugees, analysis of student precariousness that ESU, the European Student Union, asks the institutions to better understand.
